A Families by Adoption story

The "B" Family

The “B” Family

When my husband and I first started dating, we talked about the interest we had in adopting in addition to having our own children; but after 4 years of infertility, we realized that adoption may be our only route in starting a family.

Now that we have our beautiful son, I wish we had pursued this route sooner because the gap in our hearts was immediately filled the moment we laid eyes on him. Having adopted and having a mixed-race family is so beautiful and a true representation of God adopting us into His family. Reflecting on the process of infertility and the time spent waiting on our family, we truly believe that God was waiting to gift Rad specifically to us. We trusted that when we agreed to pursue adoption that God would provide the child that was meant to be ours, and boy did He deliver!

We had another couple who recommended Ray and Marion, sharing their wonderful experience and highlighting their attentive approach to a delicate situation for both the birth mother and the adoptive family. After we completed our meeting with Ray, Lori, and Marion, there was no question that this was the right fit for us.

Through it all, God held us, gave us peace, and gave us hope. We had our first match pretty quickly, but that was disrupted. Then 2 other potential situations didn’t work out. It was so painful, but we knew it wasn’t meant to be if God closed those doors. Then, on a Thursday morning several weeks after we had no word on any potential matches, I received a text from a co-worker regarding a birth mother needing to place her child. Within 48 hours of receiving that text, we had our boy!

There was so much unknown and so much that we could have feared, but we let God lead us and trusted in His perfect plan. From when we met with Ray for the first time, to then holding our son, only 10.5 weeks had passed. God knew we were ready and that our hearts were in the right place to receive the abundance that he had to offer. Every minute of waiting led to the moment of holding Rad for the first time; and He knew what we were waiting for, even though we didn’t.

We would tell other waiting couples to be flexible and don’t let ethnicity scare you. Our son is biracial; but there is no question that we are Mom and Dad when he looks at us, giggles at us, and snuggles up to us. He may look nothing like us, but he’s 1000% ours!

Disruptions may happen, but I view that as a way of saving you (and the child) from something that was not meant to be. These birth mothers are making a hard decision--one that we will likely never have to make. Meeting them there and providing love goes a long way, even if that means you support their decision to back out. Just trust that God has the best in mind for you. It’s all according to His good and gracious plan.

We are just so grateful--so appreciative of working with a wonderful team, so appreciative of timely responses and quick action from the team (like I said, I found out about our son on a Thursday and he was ours by Saturday). We can’t wait to add to our family again in the future! Thank you for everything!
