Selection Of Adoptive Parents

We understand your desire to place your child in a caring, loving home. Lori and Ray are both adoptive parents, and their adoption experiences give them empathy and compassion for the birth mothers that they serve. And at Godwin & Horst, Attorneys at Law, we do everything we can to make sure that children are placed in a safe, supportive environment with the right adoptive parents. We coordinate with investigators, social workers, and a variety of child care and parenting professionals to carefully screen prospective parents.

How We Can Assist

Our law office requires all prospective adoptive parents to undergo pre-adoption screening that includes:

  • Criminal background checks
  • Financial assessments
  • Home studies
  • Medical examinations
  • Conferences with Ray or Lori to discuss the emotional and financial commitments of caring for a child
  • Post-placement supervisory conferences

These methods help us to ensure good homes and loving parents for the adoptions we coordinate and to ease the concerns of our birth mothers. We are here to help provide all parties with the same quality legal representation we’ve provided for more than 30 years.

We also interview our prospective parent clients to make sure they fully understand the commitments of time, love, and energy that growing children need. Our regular check-ins with their family will, in instances of open adoption, provide birth mothers with the kinds of updates that encourage peace of mind.

If you, as a birth mother, have specific qualities in mind while evaluating prospective adoptive parents, we do whatever we can to help find the perfect match—no arrangements are set into motion unless you agree with them.

Working Together with Birth Mothers

We always work closely and frequently with birth mothers on deciding which adoptive family is right for their children. We also help adoptive families create parent profiles that list their backgrounds, hobbies, and interests; and we make sure their personalities play a role in the expectant mother’s selection. As a birth mother, you should feel comfortable and confident about the adoptive couple’s emotional and financial stability and in our ability to carry out your wishes.

If you are an expectant mother and still unsure about your decision to place your child for adoption, we invite you to contact our office for more information.
